The role of artificial intelligence in the oil and gas sector was discussed at TEIF 2025

Artificial intelligence is becoming a transformative force in many industries, including the oil and gas sector, which is on the verge of a technological revolution.

A roundtable discussion on the topic: «The Future of Hydrocarbon Production with the Use of Artificial Intelligence: Unlocking the Potential of Oil and Gas Deposits» was held as part of the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investments to the Economy of Turkmenistan TEIF 2025 held in Kuala Lumpur.

The discussion was attended by representatives of leading organisations in the oil and gas industry, including the national oil and gas company of Malaysia PETRONAS Upstream, international consulting company Ad Terra, the Natural Gas Research Institute of the State Concern «Turkmengas», the State Corporation «Turkmengeology», as well as the Ashgabat branch of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

The adoption of AI technologies, with a focus on automation and predictive analytics, opens up new opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs and unlock the vast potential of hard-to-recover reservoirs. Its successful application in hydrocarbon exploration and production promises to change the energy landscape in the near future.

The roundtable participants covered topics such as reservoir modeling using machine learning to improve exploration accuracy, intelligent automation of drilling and operations processes, and data analytics to improve decision making. Particular attention was paid to the application of artificial intelligence to reduce carbon footprint and support sustainable energy.

Organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Malaysian Oil, Gas and Energy Services Council (MOGSC), the roundtable was a significant event that brought together delegates in the context of the development of the oil and gas industry.
